GR Mint – FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Geotag Function

No. Pairing is only required for first-time use. Once pairing is complete, you can start using the Geotag function anytime by simply opening GR Mint and tapping the GPS icon.

  • Simply open GR Mint and tap the GPS icon, or enable auto-start in app settings
  • The Geotag function will start automatically.
  • No need to pair again unless you reset Bluetooth settings or switch to another device.

If pairing fails, try releasing the previous pairing on both the camera and the phone, then pair again.

On your camera:
  1. Go to MENU → Bluetooth Setting → Pairing → Paired Devices → Release Pairing
On your phone:
  1. Go to Settings → Bluetooth
  2. Find the camera in the list of devices
  3. Tap Forget This Device
After releasing, try pairing again following the normal steps.

The satellite icon on your GR camera has two states:

  • Gray — The camera is ready to receive location data, but hasn't received valid data yet.
  • White — The camera has successfully received GPS data from the app.

Location Updates and Battery Optimization

The app updates your location only under certain conditions:

Time Intervals

At user-defined fixed time intervals – if the device has not moved

Distance Threshold

When the device moves beyond a set distance – determined by your settings

You can customize both the time interval and distance threshold in the app's Settings section.
This feature works only if the app remains active in the phone's background.
Additionally:
  • When the camera is powered on or a photo is taken, the app pushes real-time location information to the camera.
  • This ensures accurate geotags for every photo.
This design prevents continuous location tracking, reducing battery consumption while maintaining precise geotagging.

  • Auto Start: GPS updates resume automatically when a camera reconnects in the background, so you don't need to reopen the app.
  • Auto Stop: If no camera has been connected for the set period (1 hr, 2 hr, etc.), the app automatically stops location monitoring to save battery — the same as manually tapping the location button to turn it off.
Recommendation: Enable both settings. Together they give the best balance of convenience and battery life. Under normal use, you won't need to touch the app at all.

The GR IV's Action Mode only has "On" and "Off" — unlike the GR III which has "On When Power Is On." This means the GR IV keeps Bluetooth active even when powered off. GR Mint v1.3+ addresses this by managing the connection so it only stays active while the camera is on. If you're still seeing drain, fully close the app (swipe up in the app switcher) when you're not shooting for a while, or set Action Mode to "Off" on the camera.

Save Photos to Your Phone

1
Connect your phone to the camera
2
In the Photos section of GR Mint, tap the Wi-Fi icon
3
Join your camera's WLAN network
4
Allow GR Mint to find devices on local networks (first-time only)
5
Tap Refresh (for first-time connection)
6
Select photos to save or share
Tip: Keep your camera powered on and close to your phone during transfer.

Due to an iOS limitation, Wi-Fi transfers may become unstable when the app is in the background — iOS may drop the hotspot connection to restore normal internet access. The app prevents the screen from turning off during transfers to help keep the connection stable. For best results, keep GR Mint open and in the foreground while downloading photos.
